Sarah Hawley is a free birth advocate and birth keeper, and co-host of the free birth podcast HEAR ME ROAR. After a medicalized hospital birth and then an undisturbed home birth, she now supports women to reclaim physiological birth as a sovereign rite, mother to her sons Luka and Avery.
Sarah makes the case that very few births are actual medical events, and that reclaiming birth is one of the most sovereign acts a woman can choose.
We talked about free birth, allowing the body to birth the baby without turning it into a medicalized procedure, and she didn’t speak from theory. She contrasted her two births: a medicalized hospital transfer that left her disconnected, and an undisturbed home birth that brought a calm, bonded recovery. The throughline was the land at The Haven in central Texas, the mother-centered culture she’s helping to seed there, and the reframe that safety isn’t outsourcing responsibility but taking it back, because to live is to be at risk.
When you’re ready to approach birth as a rite of passage rather than a procedure to be managed, Sarah is who I’d point you to.
