Preston Rutherford
aka Honest Conscience
Artist · Freestyle & Self-Talk · Founder · Honest Conscience · On The Ascension Podcast

Preston Rutherford, who creates as Honest Conscience, is an artist who moves what's dark and what's light through jazz-hip-hop freestyle, writing, and a surgical self-talk practice. Out of his own climb back from depression, he built Honest Conscience as a studio for giving the full spectrum of being human a place to live in the open.
Preston is the kind of artist who treats his own consciousness as the instrument and the studio at the same time.
We met through the podcast, and the conversation went somewhere I didn’t expect. He talked about climbing out of a college depression through freestyle and writing — not to escape the darkness but to express it, because for him what doesn’t get expressed gets depressed. Then he laid out his self-talk practice: affirmations, binaural beats, his own recorded voice reprogramming the inner dialogue, the birth of what he calls Honest Conscience. And underneath it all, a frame I keep coming back to — that life is the limited edition, and constraint is what makes value possible. No constraint, no restraint; no restraint, no priorities; no priorities, no values.
When you’re ready to stop suppressing the full spectrum of who you are and give it an honest place to live, Preston is who I’d point you to.
