Flow States & Lifestyle Evolved

with Elston Haywood

Elston Haywood — Mr. Lifestyle Evolved, the trainer who cold-sold a young Tyzen at 24 Hour Fitness — sits down to trace one line: desire plus discipline equals manifestation. From selling chips out of his high-school locker to flowing through a jiu-jitsu match, he lands on the distinction that runs the whole hour — ideas are not flow; flow is present. Together they build the four R's of getting unblocked (reflect, resolve, release, run) and make the quiet case that discipline isn't hard at all — it's a decision.

Episode 10 of Roots To The Fruits is the one Tyzen calls his favorite interview he’d ever done — and you can feel why. Across from him is Elston Haywood, Mr. Lifestyle Evolved, the personal trainer who once “cold sold” a young Tyler walking into 24 Hour Fitness with headphones on and no interest in being bothered. A decade of friendship later, they trace a single thread from Elston’s superhero origin story — selling chips out of his high-school locker, guarding two ransom-worthy boxes in the back of the band bus — all the way up to the philosophy of flow. The spine of the talk is desire plus discipline equals manifestation, and the hinge is a distinction Elston drops almost casually: ideas are not flow. Flow is present.

From there it opens into something larger. They take flow through Brazilian jiu-jitsu (where chasing one move closes off an infinite number of others), through being like water — which only ever takes one path — and into Plan A as a way of living: there is no plan B; you adjust, you adapt, it’s dynamic, it’s real time. When Tyzen’s baby walks into frame mid-recording, Elston calls it a primary example of flow — the water choosing its path, no should required. By the end they’ve built a real framework together, the four R’s of getting unblocked — reflect, resolve, release, run — and made the quiet, grounded case that discipline was never the hard thing. It’s a decision you make, and then you do the small work today, and you don’t beat yourself up. Early Tyzen energy, raw and generous, with a friend who sharpens him.
